Decisions?

How many decisions do you make in a day? A quick internet search produced the frequently cited , yet unverifiable number of 35000. My favorite description
attached to this number was "remotely conscious decisions." We're going to leave the discussion of "remotely conscious" for another day and focus on the choices we make as Dads, Spouses, Men, etc. Let's especially think about the choices that affect your family. Some of these are easy to spot - your career choice, your housing choice, when to take off work and when to keep working. But think about the less obvious ones too. How do you react to a misbehaving kid? Do you help in the kitchen after dinner or head for the recliner? Do you grab a coffee on the way to work every day, or do you skip most days and tuck the cash away for a family outing? Often we set aside time to consider the major decisions; we seek God and weigh the pros and cons of each choice. But those daily decisions can also have a lasting effect on the lives of our family and others, including ourselves.
So with that much power in our decisions, what's the best way to try to make the right choice? In your quiet time this week, think about Colossians 3:17 and Proverbs 3:5-6. Ask God to help you filter your choices, big and small, through verses like these so you can make the best decisions as you follow Jesus and lead your family.
Colossians 3:17 (ESV)
17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
