We do what has worked for us before. Hunting, business, parenting, relationships, home repair - whatever the situation we rely on our past experience and the experience of others to know what to do. It's true in our spiritual life too, but it seems to be a harder lesson to learn. Maybe you have maintained a lifelong streak of daily prayer and solitude with God - I HAVE NOT. But without a doubt I can look back and see the seasons when I did were better. Not easy, not perfect, but better. I'm praying we learn from that past.
